7 Habits of People with Great Skin

People want beautiful skin, but they don't always do things that will help them get there. I'm going to share some of the habits of my clients who have the best skin. But first, let me talk about the importance of habits and give tips on how to create new habits.

Habits are important for two reasons: first, they help to create consistency in our lives so that we can achieve our goals; second, they become automatic over time, which means we don't have to think about them or put a lot of effort into doing them. Additionally, habits are small steps you can take that will lead to significant changes over time. This is usually where the goal-focused individual usually gives up--because they want to see significant results, and they want to see them now.

4 Tips on Creating New Skin Care Habits

If you want to see significant changes in your skin (or any area of your life), you have to be willing to work and make some changes in your habits. Here are a few tips on how to create new habits:

1. Determine why the goal of beautiful skin is essential to you.

Really sit down and think about it. What will having beautiful skin do for you? How will it make you feel? How will it improve your self-confidence at work, home, or social settings?

2. Make a list of all of the things you currently do that are preventing you from having beautiful skin.

This could be anything from not washing your face at night to sleeping in your makeup. Once you know what needs to change, you can start making some changes.

3. Pick one or two habits to start with and focus on those.

Trying to change everything at once is usually too overwhelming, and you're more likely to give up.  Find a way to hold yourself accountable. This could be anything from telling a friend or family member about your goals to keeping a journal of your progress.  You can also tie your habit to something you enjoy doing; for example, if you love getting massages, treat yourself to a massage after you've stuck to your habit for a week.

4. Make sure your new habit is realistic and achievable.

Don't let other habits compromise it. For example, you are the queen of snooze and don't give yourself enough time in the morning. Or you come home each evening and habitually fall asleep on the couch until the wee hours of the morning.  If either of these sounds like you, you are less likely to be successful at your new skincare routine habit.  So, it may be more realistic to wake up five minutes earlier in the morning or do your evening routine before you get on the couch.

These are just a few tips to get you started on incorporating new habits into your daily routine. The most important thing is to get started and be consistent. Remember, small changes can lead to significant results over time!

Common Habits Of People With Great Skin

1. They cleanse, at the start and the end of the day

Washing your face twice daily is the best way to keep it clean, healthy, and glowing. Using a gentle cleanser is ideal for removing oil, dirt, debris, make-up, and other impurities from the pores without overdrying the skin. Additionally, you will have a clean canvas that will better absorb other skin care products like serums and moisturizers.

2. They focus on cellular turnover and exfoliation

With age, dead skin cells stick around much longer, causing a dry, dull complexion and even acne. Cellular turnover promotes exfoliation, which is the process by which the body sheds dead skin cells.

3. They hydrate and repair their skin using targeted serums.

Serums are the powerhouse of any skincare routine. They’re super concentrated, typically have smaller molecules, and can target specific concerns like acne, wrinkles, dark spots and dullness etc., But with so many serums on the market, it can be hard to know which one is right for you.

Here’s a quick guide to help you choose the best serum for your skin type:

  • If you have dry skin: Look for a hydrating serum that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin. These will help to attract and retain moisture in the skin.
  • If you have oily skin: Choose a light, oil-free serum that contains ingredients like niacinamide, peptides, or salicylic acid. These will help to control excess oil and prevent breakouts.
  • If you have sensitive skin: Look for a serum that is fragrance-free and contains calming ingredients like chamomile or aloe vera. These will help to soothe and protect the skin.
  • If you have aging skin: Choose a serum that contains antioxidants like vitamin C, retinol, peptides, and stem cells. These will help to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

No matter what your concerns are, there’s a serum out there for you. If you’re new to the world of serums, don’t worry. We’re here to help you figure out everything you need to know about incorporating serums into your routine.

4. They moisturize

Moisturizing is an essential step in any skincare routine, whether you have dry skin, oily skin, or combination skin. A good moisturizer can help to protect your skin from the elements while also keeping it hydrated and looking its best.  I like to tell clients that moisturizers provide a protective layer to seal in all the good and keep out the bad. First, consider your skin type. If you have dry skin, look for a moisturizer that is oil-based or creamy. If you have oily skin, look for a gel-based or water-based moisturizer. If you have combination skin, you may want to use two moisturizers, one for your dry areas and one for your oily areas.

5. They use sunscreen, even on cloudy days

In order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, it is important you apply sunscreen every day. Here are some why sunscreen should be added to your skin care routine:

  • It keeps your skin complexion even
  • It protects your skin from the Harmful UV rays
  • It helps protect against the visible signs of premature aging

To maintain a youthful complexion, don't forget to apply your sunscreen as directed by the manufacture.

6. They start their anti-aging routine as early as now

Many people neglect their skin until they notice fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. But by then, it can become more costly and time-consuming to achieve results. The best time to start an anti-aging skincare routine is in your 20s. Though you may not see any visible signs of aging yet, using preventative products can help reduce your risk of developing them later on. So, I recommend starting good skin care practices as early as possible.  This includes using the best skin care products, getting enough sleep, eating right, and exercising regularly.

7. They invest in skin care products followed by skin care services

Most people don't realize how important it is to use quality skin care products in addition to receiving treatments. Just because you get a facial or medical procedure done, doesn't mean your skin is suddenly going to be perfect.  In fact, if you don't have a good skincare routine with quality products, you're likely to undo all of the work that the professionals did and might even end up with worse skin! We have a saying in our industry, 20% of the results clients achieve are through office visits, while 80% of results are based on home care routine. So, I wouldn’t waste my money in office treatments until you have a proven record of being committed to your at home skin care routine.

If you want great skin, it’s important to develop good habits that will support your goals. These small steps may not seem like it, but they'll make a big difference over time if you stay the course. And don't forget to shop now for the products you need to help you on your journey.  Or contact us and we will be glad to help you determine which products at Nakira Skin are a good fit for you!
