What Is The Best Skincare Routine?

It's a common misconception that there's one skincare routine that works for everyone. In reality, the best skincare routine is the one that fits your individual skin type, condition, and your lifestyle.

Your skincare routine should be tailored to your specific needs. If you have dry skin, for example, you'll need to use a different routine than someone with oily skin. And if you're constantly on the go, you'll need a routine that's easy to follow and doesn't require a lot of time. After all, even the best routine is useless if you don't use it.

How To Identify Your Skin Type?

Knowing your skin type is the first step in finding the best skincare routine for you. Once you know your skin type, you can start to narrow down which products will work best for you.

Your skin type is determined by the amount of oil your skin produces. There are five basic skin types: oily, dry, combination, normal, and sensitive.

Oily skin is shiny and produces a lot of oil, while dry skin is characterized by a lack of moisture and produces little to no oil. Combination skin is oily in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), while the rest of the skin is dry. Normal skin is balanced, neither oily nor dry, and sensitive skin is easily irritated.

Sensitive skin is a skin type, but I am finding it has become more of a skin condition and it can be caused by many different things like:

- genetics

- environmental factors

- skin disorders

- certain medications

The best way to determine your skin type is by paying attention to how your skin looks and feels after cleansing or towards the end of the day. If your skin feels tight and dry, you probably have dry skin. If your skin is shiny, you will likely have oily skin.

The Best Products For Each Skin Type?

There are specific products that are best for each skin type. Here's a list of some of the best products for each skin type:

Oily skin:

If you have oily skin, you'll need to use a cleanser that removes excess oil, an oil-free moisturizer, and a mattifying primer. Look for products that are labeled "oil-free" or "water-based." This can be tricky because most people tend to over dry skin. I have found doing a double cleanse is more effective for my oily skin.

Dry skin

If you have dry skin, you'll need to use a gentle cleanser, moisturizing cream or lotion, and a hydrating serum. Look for products that are labeled "creamy," "hydrating," or "moisturizing."

Combination skin:

If you have combination skin, you'll need to use a gentle cleanser, an oil-free moisturizer, and a mattifying primer. Look for products that are labeled "oil-free" or "water-based."

Normal skin:

If you have normal skin, you can typically use a cleanser, moisturizer, and serum rated for normal or all skin types.

Sensitive skin:

If you have sensitive skin, you'll need to use a gentle cleanser, moisturizing cream or lotion, and a hydrating serum. Look for products that are labeled "creamy," "hydrating," or "moisturizing."

How To Stick To Your Skincare Routine?

Just like anything else, sticking to a skincare routine takes commitment and effort. Your skin care regimen will not work if you don't do the work. Here are a few tips to help you stick to your routine:

- Make a schedule: Dedicate certain times of the day to your skincare routine. This will help you to stay organized and make sure you're not skipping any steps.

- Set a reminder: If you need help remembering to do your skincare routine, set a reminder on your phone or in your planner.

- Keep it simple: Don't make your skincare routine more complicated than it needs to be. Choose products that are easy to use and won't take up too much time. I personally like to use multifunctional products. For example, I like to use a PH balanced cleanser, like the Nakira Skin® Soothing Hydration Cleanser, because it alleviates the need for a toner.

- Stick to the basics: If you're having trouble sticking to your skincare routine, start by implementing one to two new steps at a time.

-Keep your products in sight: I like to keep my skincare products in a place where I can see them. This way, I'm reminded to use them every day.

- Find a friend: Having someone else to do your skincare routine with can make it more fun and help you to stay on track.
